National Numbers Visit McLaren Technology Centre to see new McLaren MP4-12C

July 26, 2010
Posted in Car news — Written by Helen

McLaren MP4-12CNational Numbers Chairman Eric Craggs visited the McLaren premises in Woking, Surrey, to preview their newest sports car, the stunning MP4-12C.

Eric and about 70 other dedicated motor enthusiasts were personally invited to the £40 million McLaren Technology Centre (MTC), where they enjoyed a two-hour guided tour, a preview of the new McLaren MP4-12C, along with a champagne reception.

The MTC is stunning, and there are many reasons it’s not your everyday car factory. The building accurately reflects the professionalism and attitude of the McLaren brand. When viewed from above, the stunning building forms the yin-yang symbol. But you’d only get to see this if you flew in by private helicopter or jet!

Inside, the MTC is fanatically immaculate; pristine white walls and glistening aluminium, with an almost clinical feel. It features many of the wow-factor touches that feature on McLaren cars, such as gull-wing doors.

The ‘boulevard’ feature McLaren’s astounding trophy display, which is almost 50 metres long; along with millions of pounds’ worth of historic racing cars.

It’s safe to assume that this attention to detail comes from Ron Dennis, the executive chairman of McLaren, who started his career with the company as an F1 mechanic in the late Sixties.

The same care in design has been lovingly bestowed to the MP4-12C. Developed entirely in-house by McLaren, the car is likely to cost £175,000. It has a 3.8-litre V8 twin-turbo engine with 600 BHP and around 443 lb/ft of torque. The car is reported to be able to accelerate from 0 to 124 mph in under 10 seconds. Braking from 62 mph to zero can be done in less than 30 metres. Find out more about the car here.

Are you thinking of buying the MP4-12C? Whether you are, or just dreaming of it, National Numbers has some fitting numbers plates. AMP 412C would be an ideal registration, or how about MPH 12C: a great suffix registration for the car? MP 40 is another good plate, or how about a suffix search for MPH?

We have millions of registrations so why not search for number plates now?

DVLA Logbook Thefts Lead to £13m Vehicle Scam

February 1, 2010
Posted in Car news, DVLA News — Written by Helen

A BBC investigation has uncovered a scam that has led to the theft of 11,000 vehicle identities from the DVLA (formerly the DVLC).

Blank paper logbooks that never made it to the shredder found their way into the hands of criminals, who have used the missing logbooks to steal 13 million pounds worth of car identities.

The thefts took place over the last two years; however 130,000 blank books are still missing. The blank documents have been used to forge paperwork for cars so that stolen cars can be sold on as legitimate vehicles. Unfortunately, customers who have bought a forged car in these circumstances are left with nothing - no car, no refund.

This is not the first time documents have leaked from the DVLA. The BBC reported on tens of thousands of documents that went missing in 2003 in similar circumstances.

Noel Shanahan, Chief Executive of DVLA, said: “we do sympathise with the situation that people have found themselves in, in finding that they have bought a car which turned out to be stolen”.

Clearly, the DVLA sympathises with the situation of customers’ who have bought a cloned car, saying that they have done all they can. But this statement is likely to be cold-comfort to those stung by the scam.

The Government body puts the incident down to a criminal act that will be dealt with by a Police investigation, which is now underway. Disturbingly, the Police have reported that the mistake could leave its mark for over 100 years.

Visit the DVLA’s web site to view serial numbers of the forged documents.

Government Vehicle Scrappage Scheme Nearing End

January 18, 2010

Toyota AvensisThe Government’s scrappage scheme, which helps fund purchases of newer and more efficient vehicles, is now 75% used up according to figures released on Friday by the Department for Business. If the fund is used up by February this year, the scheme will come to its natural end.

The scheme offers purchasers a £2,000 discount when replacing old and inefficient vehicles with newer, more eco-friendly vehicles. It seems to have been a success because 318,628 new vehicle orders have been accepted since its inception in April 2009. The scheme was extended last year to allow newer vehicles (V-reg cars and eight-year-old vans) to qualify.

The fund still contains enough money to subsidise another 82,000 new vehicle orders, so if you’ve been considering taking advantage of the scheme, take action now to ensure you can still benefit from the savings.

Of the 38 vehicle manufacturers signed up to the scheme, Toyota is offering a similar incentive. Their new ‘Swappage’ scheme allows purchasers of selected Toyota models to swap their seven to 10 year old vehicle, i.e. W-reg and 52-reg number plates, for a £2,000 saving on an eligible new Toyota Yaris, Toyota Auris or Toyota Avensis.

The vehicle for trading must be DVLA registered, insured, and have a valid MoT certificate. The registered keeper of the vehicle must have owned the vehicle for the last 12 consecutive months.

A greater incentive is offered to customers who choose the Toyota Avensis because it is built in Derbyshire, UK. For this swap there is an additional £500 available on T2 models and £750 on TR and T4 models.

Other car manufacturers such as Chevrolet and Mercedes-Benz are offering similar swappage schemes that extend beyond the Government deadline.

Detroit Motor Show: Cadillac XTS

Cadillac XTS Platinum ConceptMore news from the Detroit motor show - Cadillac has revealed their new XTS car - the company’s “flagship premium saloon”, and there will be a right-hand drive version!

The Cadillac XTS Platinum will be released in the US in 2012. Cadillac describes the vehicle as “built for efficiency, luxury and connectivity”.

The car is a plug-in hybrid, meaning that it can travel on electric power for short distances, before falling back on a conventional engine for power. On longer journeys, the XTS’ V6, 345bhp, 3.6-litre direct injection engine kicks in.

According to Cadillac, the XTS literally ‘reads the road’ using Magnetic Ride Control, allowing it to adjust suspension damping in a millisecond, giving improved body control. Sounds great for all the snow we’re having!

The interior design of the new XTS borrows from “contemporary forms and themes” and uses Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) displays. OLED dashboard displays draw less power and are thinner and lighter than convention displays, improving the power efficiency of the car.

The rear passenger seats contain the car’s “connectivity feature” – in the Cadillac CTS this took the form of a 40-gig hard-drive entertainment system, which should entertain kids and friends alike on long trips.

XTS is a three-letter acronym that fits perfectly into many number plate formats. A search for XTS number plates on our web site brings back 61 suitable number plates! Amongst the best are the prefix registrations C1 XTS and C4 XTS, and dateless registration 800 XTS.

From Cadillac to Yugo, we have number plates for all vehicle makes and models. Try a search on our web site to find number plates for your vehicle.

Toyota FT-CH Appeals to 8-Bit Generation

The North American Motor Show in Detroit runs from January 16th to 24th this month. With more than 700 vehicles on display, and 700,000 people expected to attend, the show is North America’s largest and most prestigious automotive showcase.

2009 was a tough year for the motor industry. The cars at the show reflect manufacturers’ awareness of consumers’ requirements for economy, environment, and longevity, whilst remaining fun and lively.

Toyota FT-CH concept carThe Toyota FT-CH concept car, unveiled at this years show, is an interesting hybrid car that promises to be cheaper to run than the current Toyota Prius. If the car makes it to the production line, it may be released under the Prius moniker.

It is hoped that the FT-CH will appeal to younger car buyers. The car’s designers were inspired by the “8-bit genre” which was popularised in the 1980’s by the introduction of home games consoles which used 8-bit microprocessors. Since the 1980’s, an 8-bit music and art scene has developed which is clear in the design of the car, which looks edgy, fun, and brightly coloured.

Style-conscious owners love matching number plates to stylise their cars, so something like 8 BYT would be a perfect dateless number plate investment; TT08 BYT is a great new-style plate that would suit the car well.

Cheap prefix plates include T80 BYT, T88 BYT, T800 BYT, and T888 BYT, all from £220!

Footballer leaves personalised number plate at crash scene

December 20, 2009

The Scottish international and Cardiff City footballer Ross McCormack left his personalised number plate lying in the road following an accident back in October. The player was later found to have been drink-driving when he crashed his Range Rover Sport when out in Cardiff.

McCormack had been celebrating with friends following a 4-3 win for his team against Sheffield United earlier in the day. After a few drinks he thought he was sober enough to drive but lost control and crashed his vehicle into a fence beside a restaurant in Cardiff Bay.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and the player left the scene following the accident. However, his number plate R444 MCC was found by police and traced back to McCormack and his home address which was only a mile away. The 23-year-old was then breathalysed and found to be almost twice over the legal limit.

McCormack was later sentenced at Cardiff Magistrates Court and was given a 17-month driving ban, a fine, plus the option to undertake a rehabilitation course. The footballer was also disciplined by Cardiff City FC.

National Numbers recently purchased this fantastic number plate: PO10 GTX. The personalised registration would look fantastic on any Volkswagen Polo.

Apologies to those with vintage Polo’s (you might want to check out our range of number plates for VW Polo’s), but the registration can only be used on cars registered since January 2010, so you’d need a newer variant of this classic hot hatch, such as the new VW Polo GTi.

What a car the new Polo GTi is! With a power output of around 200bhp from its 1.4 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the car features both a supercharger and a turbocharger, which boosts power but keeps fuel consumption to a minimum - perfect for those speed demons who also have a concern for economical motoring.

For the interior, styling is inspired by the Polo’s big sister, the VW Golf, and includes a black and red honeycomb grille, GTi badges, and alloy wheels. The car’s racy feel is boosted with a body kit and a small roof spoiler.

We have personalised registrations for all makes and models of vehicle on our web site, or why not give us a call on 01642 36 37 38 for more ideas on the registration that’s perfect for your vehicle.

New Car Registration Forecast Increased Significantly

November 9, 2009
Posted in Car news — Written by Shelly

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has amended the UK’s new car registration forecast for 2009 by 100,000 units since its last quarterly revision back in July. This rise would suggest that the impact of the government’s Scrappage Incentive Scheme has been generally positively received by the British public.

With new car sales continuing to improve, and October experiencing the biggest rise yet – up 31.6 percent compared to October 2008 with 168,000 cars sold – 20 percent of all sales were accredited to the scheme.

Paul Everitt, the SMMT chief executive explained:

“The Scrappage Incentive Scheme has had a demonstrably positive impact on new car registrations in 2009 and will continue to do so into 2010. SMMT’s latest forecasts confirm that the recovery remains fragile and government needs to continue to give priority to measures that support consumer and business confidence.”

If you have just purchased a new vehicle yourself, you may wish to know that there are many excellent bargains to be found online on a huge range of personalised registration plates. Adding this individuality to your new car can be one of the best ways to celebrate your buy and give it the best finishing touch possible.

World’s Most Expensive Numberplate

October 26, 2009

A Bugatti Veyron is now the proud owner of the world’s most expensive number plate. The number plate, which reads ‘F1’, would be perfect for the newly crowned F1 champion Jenson Button- although he recently sold his own Veyron, so maybe he’s looking for something a little faster these days!
The ‘F1’ number plate was sold by Essex County Council just over a year and a half ago- for the eye-watering price of £440,625. Essex County Council had owned the plate since 1904- when the Bugatti Veyron was just a very, very distant twinkle in the sky!
The car is capable of doing 0-62 mph in less than three seconds and has a top speed of 253mph.
Added to an already very expensive car, one can only begin to image how much this winning combination would fetch if it was ever offered up for sale. However, unless you have the bank balance of Jenson Button you’ll be saving your pennies for a very long time!
The Veyron, complete with its pricey number plate, will be on display at the MPH Show at London’s Earls Court from 5th- 8th November.

Looking for a gorgeous new registration number for your VW Golf?

VW has recently launched their ultimate Golf, at the Frankfurt International Motor show - the new Golf R (codenamed R20T). This version is based on the Golf GTI’s four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbo engine, and replaces the previous Golf 32 3.2-litre V6 as VW’s hottest hatchback.
