West Oxfordshire Safer Communities have teamed up with KJ’s Motor Car Engineers to launch a new initiative which helps residents in the area keep a firmer grip on their car number plates.
Motorists will be able to have their regular number plate screws replaced with tamper proof screws, which can’t be easily undone.
West Oxfordshire’s strategic crime prevention and reduction specialist, Bill Butcher, said:
“The clutch head screws that we are offering people are very hard to undo. They are also a cheap and easy way of ensuring that you avoid any nasty surprises coming through the post, like parking tickets, or a knock at the door from a police officer because your plates were on a car used in a crime.”
Local PC Phil Marstin added:
“I think it is the worry that people are mainly concerned about when their number plates are stolen, they think I’m going to get fined or how do I prove it’s not me if another car is using the plate.”
The free scheme, which is in partnership with KJ’s Motor Car Engineers, is due to run until the end of the year.
