A self confessed fanatic of the late 70′s TV series ‘The Professionals’ has finally got his hands on the keys to his dream car.
Graeme Jamieson, 40, of Balvonie of Inches, Inverness, has spent most of his working career selling cars in the motor trade, but takes most enjoyment from tending to his own collection of vehicles.
Such is his love for The Professionals, he has not only purchased a number of the models seen in the show, but their number plates, too!
Speaking of his love for the show, he said: “I was a huge fan of the series. I grew up watching it.
“I can remember being allowed to stay up late to watch The Professionals, which shows my age.”
Based on a fictional government agency, CI5, The Professionals followed the unconventional methods used by ‘Cowley’, ‘Doyle’ and ‘Bodie’ to get results, which frequently included an array of vehicles.
The cars used on the show included Ford Capris and Granadas in later episodes, and Leyland Princesses, Triumph Dolomite Sprints and the Rover SD1 in earlier episodes.
It was the Rover SD1 that Graeme became most attached to.
“My father had them when we were young, and seeing them on TV made them so cool,” Mr Jamieson said.
“I always liked them. They were always quite ahead of their time.
“I’ve only owned this 1979 car since February, but I’ve got a few other SD1s which I keep for parts that are in good condition.
“I got this one in Southend-on-Sea, through the SD1 Owners Club. These models are getting quite rare, because, unfortunately, the build quality was quite poor and very few have survived so they’re hard to get hold of.”
