Choose a year letter at the front followed by 1, 2 or 3 numbers plus three letters. This range is an excellent source of cheap number plates. Another advantage is that these cheap number plates arrive in the form of a "holding" certificate entitling the owner to the mark, and so they make excellent presents.

Cheap Number Plates from NI

This range is still the cheap of all as they start from around £100. Some of the registrations from N.I. do spell names but these are obviously more expensive, like DAZ, BIL, or RIA. However, cheap number plates like EJZ or PDZ are more often used to "cover up" the year letter.

Dateless Cheap Number Plates

Some pre-1962 3-letter / 3-number marks also qualify as cheap number plates since some of them can still be purchased for around £500. Examples would be FUD, XET or UXE + 3 numbers.
