Cherished Number Plates
True Cherished Number Plates are those that carry no year identifier. All registrations issued after 1963 can be pinned down to a date of issue. Normally you simply look at the single prefix/suffix letter at front or end of the reg, or with the new style look at the number, and this informs you in which year the registration was originally released. For standard issue reg, this also gives away the age of the vehicle it's on.
Cherished number plates, on the other hand, have no distinguishing letters or numbers that can inform you of their original release dates. Because of that when you assign one of these to a car, bike, or other roadworthy vehicle, you're camoflaguing the age of your vehicle. If your vehicle is brand new, you can add to its appeal with the addition of a custom plate. If your vehicle is quite old you can disguise it's age by adding a cherished number plate. And if you've got a true classic car that's pre-1963 itself then the perfect finishing touch is a custom cherished number plate of this type - with nice black and silver plates, of course! Irish reg can also be considered as dateless as they carry no year identifier, but don't themselves date back to prior to 1963. They're being issued all the time, which makes for a lower price point as they're not as rare.
