Dateless Style Reg

Dateless style reg really refers to dateless style registrations. A couple of examples of really nice examples are J1. J1 was originally issued in December 1903 to the Marquis of Ailsbury. Similarly A1 was issued to a Lord.

I wonder, if there was some sort of deal done with the royalty in the early days of issuing plates. Or was it due to the fact that there were the only people who could afford motor vehicles in those days. Or it could be a combination of both. Since I know no royalty. I will never know.

Families do collect plates, for example 1 CTR, a proper cherished plate belongs to a chap called Gerson in London. His family owns a lot of top class plates for example O5, AG 131, ETA 1, 2G, which is a Glasgow number and quite a few other top class plates.

A gentleman who wrote a very interesting book on numberplates was called Noel Woodall and lives in Blackpool. He owns O 11; he also owns N10 ELS, and N10 WEL. He is a seriously interesting character to talk to and listen to. He has a mind of information on numberplates.

Eric Craggs, boss of www.nationalnumbers.co.uk does like these unusual plates e.g.: OO 1, this belongs to a chap called McGregor in Saltcodes, Ayreshire. He says it's ideal for his occupation, which is an Ophthalmic Optician. He also owns MCS 1, which again is a rare Scottish plate.
