Everybody who wants to learn to drive a car or motorcycle/moped must have a provisional licence. You can apply for a first provisional licence online or by post/in person.
It's possible to apply for your first provisional driving licence online.
You can also apply in person or by post. Use the DVLA online form ordering service to get the D1 application form. The D1 form is also available from Post Office branches.

You will need to send these along with a passport style colour photograph and £50.00. Applications should be sent to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AD.
Delivery of your new provisional licence should be within three weeks of receiving an application. It takes longer if any details on the form need to be checked.
Do not drive until you've received your licence.
