Irish Style Reg
Irish style reg refers to the style of number plates and really is Irish style registration.
Eric Craggs, Chairman of National Numbers has been in this Irish market for the last 25 years and was the founder member. In the early days, you had to have a vehicle to transfer a number plate. It was only in 1990, the DVLA, after many years of knocking the dealers, decided to join the market. They had to introduce a certificate system so the need to keep a number on a vehicle disappeared. In one way this was excellent for National Numbers as we no longer needed lots of motorbikes and cars. At the height of National Numbers vehicles, Mr. Craggs owned 3 cow sheds full of vehicles in Beverley where he stored 1400 motorbikes. The vast majority of these motorbikes were Irish style reg and he used those as sponge type vehicles. That means where you get a replacement plate from the government for nothing, sell it and get another replacement plate, sell it etc. etc. You would not think that was true, however it certainly was and still is. The difference today, the plates are nowhere as near as valuable as they were 25 years ago. This is because Irish style reg has changed into not so attractive plates such as CEZ, however, the tide has turned and now they are releasing IG plates so we will get in the future DIG.
