F1's race for £3.4 million
Selling at the speed of a Formula 1 race, the DVLA's latest series of personalised prefix registration has shattered records for first day sales.
Almost 3.4 million pounds was generated for the treasury in ten hours as the F prefix was released to the public at 8am, Tuesday October 7th.
Whether these private plates are bought to pimp your ride or as a safe investment during the credit crunch, these certificated plates may soon be seen on every road in UK. Just look out for number plates starting with an F, followed by a number and three letters e.g. F1 SHR
For many years the DVLA (previously DVLC) had kept these personalised number plates hidden away, unsold, because they could find no fair way to allocate them. Finally, an act of parliament allowed the DVLA to become an agency with permission to sell the retained number plates as government assets and the H1-20s prefix was the first up for sale.
