Personalised Plates

What exactly are pesonalised plates?

You will have seen adverts for "personalising" everything from mugs to suitcase straps so you should not be surprised that personalised plates also exist.

A number plate allocated from a dealer's list or "inherited" with a second-hand car is rather anonymous - which some people prefer - but a growing number of others prefer something more personal on their plate - hence the existence of the market for personalised plates.

Personalised plates mean different things to different people. Sometimes collectors get bitten by the bug and amass valuable collections of private or personalised plates. For example, Mr. Ralph Charles Horsley of Darlington owns RCH 1 (for obvious reasons) but also possesses ANG 1X, BOW 86, DUP 1D, RH 7, A1 SLE, VOW 608, WED 375 etc. etc. You would be able to surmise that the latter personalised plates could be to do with advertising a wedding business. So, Mr. Horsley's collection of personalised plates not only reflects his initials, advertises his business but represents an investment as well. You might try reading Number Plates for investment if you fancy your luck.

Personalised plates can be fun

On a staff car, we have TO02 FAR which often raised laughs when used in the Lake District by two directors who always insist on walking too far.

Another fast car proudly displayed R4 CES. A friend was heard to ask why a number plate dealer couldn't have decent personalised plates instead of an old 'R' reg!

Personalised plates are fun as we have already claimed (not to mention, easier to spot in a car park or to remember when you're asked at a hotel reception) and mean different things to different people. They can range from your initials; your name like BRY 17N, W111 TES, LOU 154C or CHR 155M (see number plate jargon explained for help with making words and names); funny plates like S35 EXY, XTR 33M, EXC 355S, S111 AFT to short neat looking marks like ACZ 60 or CBZ 55. If you are getting interested in plates, you can read a bit more at car registrations or car registration numbers.

To give that finishing touch you can even personalise the actual acrylic plates with flags, logos, borders, 3-D lettering etc. If you want to have a look at what's on offer, go to our Homepage and click on the Acrylic Plates section for all the options.

Recently, we saw a most extreme example of a personalised plate:- UP SIMON. It was seriously mispaced. Can you work it out?

Anyway, back to the legal options, please use our number plates - clever search to find the right personalised plate for you (of course you can always give us a call). Remember, you can enjoy the fun of looking while we look after the boring bits such as organising the actual transfer. After all, we have been in the business for more than a quarter of a century, members of the RMIF (Retail Motor Industry Federation) and holders of the BSI quality management award ISO 9001:2000.
