Private Style Plates
Private style plates is a really a misnomer it refers to the new type plates, which are called new style plates, for example this system was introduced in Sep 2001 and started with 51 - AB51 ABC denotes Sep 01.
The new style reg should have started with 01 but the DVLA decided that they would issue the last suffix plate ABC 123Y in March 2001.
The two first letters denote a graphical area, for example NE is the north, and the numbers represent a date :
