A moped is a small, 49cc motorcycle that has a lower driving age than other vehicles, and can be driven with only a provisional driving licence. Because of this they are most often seen ridden by younger drivers. The name comes from a blend of motor and pedal, referring to the bicycle like pedals mopeds used to have. Generally speaking, these are usually starter vehicles and have a max speed of 28mph, so not really one for speed demons.
However, believe it or not, mopeds are quite popular amongst collectors. A lot of the early models, from as far back as 1912, are still on display today. Some models from the 1940s are still road legal because they need so little care and attention to maintain. The market for moped number plates therefore extends primarily to collectors, and to good effect as there is not much demand from elsewhere. MOP 3D sold for £1,700 in 2003, the best plate for spelling 'moped' by miles. One creative buyer also bought himself 49 CC for £5,700, an excellent display plate for a classic moped model.
If you're looking for a moped number plate, either for your collection, or for a completely different reason, the best thing to do is to speak to the sales team. They are available on 01642 363738 and will happily discuss what you are looking for. Of course, if you are buying for a classic model you will need to remember that in order to transfer a number plate the vehicle needs tax and MOT.
