Harrogate’s Rudding Park is the setting for the current DVLA number plate auction.
The auction got off to a flying start yesterday, with £374,000 raised in the first two hours, with thousands of bidders trying to get their hands on a unique number plate for a bargain price.
‘99 A’ has attracted the majority of headlines so far, selling to a resident of Birmingham for £28,000, following a reserve price of £3,000.
The DVLA’s personalised registrations marketing manager, Damian Lawson, has been delighted by the start made to the auction.
“We have had a fantastic start,” Mr Lawson exclaimed.
“The hotel has been packed out and bids have been high – a phenomenal opening to the auction.”
Several number plates are set to steal the show, with the GEN 151S registration the talk of the event.
Phil Collins and rock band enthusiasts were clamouring to get their hands on the unique GEN 151S number plate, which went to a lucky bidder for just £2000.
“Genesis is a legendary band and a personalised registration is a perfect way for fans to show their loyalty – although they may have some famous competition,” Mr Lawson said.
Many of Liverpool Football Club’s male fans will also be desperate to get their hands on LFC 80Y when it goes under the hammer today, with its reserve of just £400.
The main attraction will almost certainly be Friday 7th’s first lot; ‘10 O’.
With a reserve price set at £10,000, all eyes will be on this registration number with it almost certain to rocket into astronomical figures.
If the ‘10 O’ number plate is out of your price range, there are plenty of other number plates available to choose from, with 1,500 going to auction over the three days.
Friday’s auction hosts a number of other great number plates.
‘31 OO’ will go on sale with a reserve price of £3,000 and ‘3 OOO’ will go under the hammer with a reserve price of £4,000.
