Banned 23 Series Number Plates

However, some of these registrations have been blocked by the DVLA and will never the see the light of day, or even the lights of a motorway tunnel.

Why? If you’ve visited the National Numbers blog before, you know why. Too dirty, too rude, and too ridiculous.

If this is your first visit to the National Numbers blog, we’ve written extensively about banned number plates in the past (you can read about banned 22 number plates here and the 2021 edition of banned DVLA number plates here). And today, we’re going to treat you to a run-down of the banned 23 series number plates.

So, let’s not stand on ceremony. Let’s crack on with the banned 23 number plates. Starting with insults.

Insulting 23 series number plates banned by the DVLA.

Plenty of motorists give in to a bit of insulting now and then, with the odd example of road rage here and there, but as far as the DVLA are concerned, for number plates, insults are no go.

A great, or not so great, depending on how you look at it, example of an insult in the 23 number plate series is GO23 HEL. Quite obviously spelling “go to hell”, this has been banned by the DVLA and you’ll never catch it on UK roads.

The same goes for the quite infantile but equally emphatic “EA23 POO”. I don’t think we need to tell you what that says, or why it joins an ever-growing list of banned UK number plates for the new 23 reg series.

Rude 23 number plates banned by the DVLA.

Next, we have swear words, and John Snow is out of luck if he’s after a private number plate for his new car, as BA23 TRD has been banned by the DVLA.

BO23 OKS also made the banned list, as well as TO23 ERR, FA23 NNY, and AA23 OLE. I don’t think we need to lower ourselves to typing out what these refer to. You know what they refer to.

BL23 JOB and EA23 VAJ were also banned, as nobody needs to see that kind of thing when they’re trying to drive to work, as was EA23 DCK, for similar reasons.

Violent and political 23 number plates banned by the DVLA.

From rude words to threatening language next, starting with MU23 DER, which has been banned from the 23 number plate series. As has YE23 WAR, obviously, as well as RU23 UKR and NO23 RUS, which might not be so obvious.

It’s said that those last two, and maybe even YE23 WAR, refer to the ongoing war in Ukraine. Their banning makes a lot of sense, then, as war is obviously not something to advertise on your vehicle registration.

C023 ONA, EU23 SHT, and EU23 BAD have also been withdrawn by the DVLA, as they reference cultural events that some people are still quite passionate about.

Again, pretty understandable as to why these were taken out, as the DVLA aren’t ones to get political/intentionally controversial if they can avoid it.

Generally offensive 23 number plates banned by the DVLA.

Next, we have a fairly vague category of personalised number plates to be supressed from the 23 series, with registrations that are just generally offensive.

PS23 CHO is another banned reg that could end up in the insults category of banned 23 series number plates, but to be fair, it could reference that Christian Bale film. Either way, it’s banned, along with LE23 ZZA, EA23 GAL, and GO23 FUC. No points for working out why they were banned.
