One of the fastest rising surnames in terms of coverage, the name Khan is a name of Mongolian origin that is widely used in Urdu, Pashto and Pakistani languages. The name itself originated as a title, a form of King. The most glaring example of this is the infamous Genghis Khan, but we wouldn't hold him as a standard. More positive role models might be boxer Amir Khan, founder of the Khan Academy Sal Khan, or Bollywood's Khan Trio brothers Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan.

You would think Khan number plates will be numerous, given the short name, but a combination of some of the best ones already being picked up and the K being difficult to replace with a number has meant some options are scarce. KHA 1N (£12,000), KHA 4N (£9,000) and KHA 44N (£8,400), for example, have all sold via DVLA auction. Others have been smarter in their approach, going for KHA 11# or #KH 4N (# = another letter, such as first initial), usually to good results.
