Notify DVLA as soon as possible following bereavement - send back the deceased's driving licence and their vehicle's registration certificate (V5C). This will prevent you from receiving post about the deceased later on.
Along with the two documents, include a covering letter to explain your relationship to the deceased. Send everything to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AB.
If you will be keeping the deceased's vehicle, complete the 'new keeper' section on the registration certificate (log book). Sign and date it and send it with a covering letter explaining your relationship to the deceased to the Sensitive Casework Team, DVLA, Swansea SA99 1ZZ. Keep the 'new keeper supplement' in a safe place.
Your new registration certificate should be sent to you within four weeks.
If you decide to sell the vehicle, fill in the 'new keeper' section of the registration certificate. Sign and date it and send it with a covering letter to the Sensitive Casework Team, DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1ZZ. Give the 'new keeper supplement' to the buyer. They should receive their new registration document within four weeks.
