Are Irish number plates legal in the UK?

Northern Irish number plates are fully legal for use across the UK. As they are issued within the UK system and governed by the DVLA, they can be assigned to vehicles registered in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Plates from the Republic of Ireland operate under a different system and cannot be used in the same way on UK vehicles.
