How to register a private number plate with DVLA

In most cases to register a private number plate to a vehicle, you will need a V778 or V750 certificate showing you as the legal owner of the registration. You can pair this with information from the V5C (logbook) for the vehicle and complete the assignment online, or alternatively post these documents directly to the DVLA.

If you're buying your registration from National Numbers, we offer an optional service to assign the registration on your behalf. To take advantage of this you will need to select this option when you place your order and then send us the vehicle V5C. We require the original as it will be replaced with a new copy showing your chosen number plate.
