Is a DVLA-Banned Registration the Same as an Illegal Number Plate?
No. A banned registration is a character combination withheld from sale or issue by the DVLA, usually because it could be considered offensive or inappropriate.
An illegal number plate may display a valid registration but breach the rules through altered spacing, incorrect characters, tinting or another modification. The registration itself may be valid even though the physical plate is not road legal.
