Can I Put My Private Plate On Any Car?
Not necessarily. Most private registrations can only be assigned to vehicles that are the same age or newer than the registration itself. If a registration would make a vehicle appear newer than it really is, it cannot legally be assigned.
The main exceptions are dateless and Northern Irish registrations. Because these registrations do not contain a standard age identifier, they can be assigned to vehicles of any age, making them some of the most versatile personalised registrations available.
If you're unsure whether a registration is age-compatible with your vehicle, you can use National Numbers Vehicle Age Checker above before purchasing or transferring the plate.
