Why Do Cars Have Registration Plates?
Registration plates give each vehicle a unique identity linked to its official record. They allow the police, the DVLA and other authorities to identify vehicles, confirm registered keeper details and trace those involved in offences or collisions. The need for reliable vehicle identification was the main reason compulsory registration was introduced as motor traffic increased.
