How to read Irish number plates
The letters in Northern Irish number plates originally indicated the area where the registration was issued. For example, “IL” relates to Enniskillen, with combinations such as AIL, BIL and CIL following over time.
The numbers are issued sequentially, starting from 1 and increasing as new registrations are created.
